Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 10, 2023) – The latest rendition of Tulsa Speedway had been anxiously awaiting the first appearance of 410-ci Sprint Cars atop the 1/3-mile clay oval that opened in 2021 to carry on the traditions of previous Tulsa Speedway venues that had propagated the racing scene throughout the state and beyond since the 1930’s.
However, the weekend’s scheduled POWRi 410-ci series “Dirt Down in T-Town” quickly evolved into a Mud Down after torrential rains interrupted Friday’s card and completely wiped out any Saturday attempt.
Eighteen cars filled the pit area on Friday night with Wayne Jonson setting a quick time of 13.505-seconds in qualifying and Scott Bogucki then winning the first of two heat races before the skies opened up in a big way.
More heavy rain in the early Saturday hours made it a weekend sweep for Mother Nature, leaving the track and POWRi series to look for alternative makeup dates.
