Lonnie Wheatley, BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (May 18, 2023) – A busy slate of open wheel action awaits on this Memorial Day Weekend Eve when racing begins in full swing with events scheduled nearly every day beginning next Tuesday with the only two raceless days from May 23 until the end of June occurring on May 30 and June 9.
A USAC return to Belleville, Outlaws in Ohio and All Stars in New York are among weekend headliners.
The World of Outlaws invade Ohio this weekend with stops at Attica and Sharon where Kyle Larson topped both Attica events last year and current points leader Brad Sweet scored at Sharon.
With Outlaws in Ohio, All Stars are ousted to New York for a three-night swing with a potential $26,000 to sweep the weekend (8, 10 & 8) at Dundee, Fonda and Weedsport before $59K awaits with four Central PA nights next week.
With Outlaws vacated and awaiting All Stars, Posse sandwiches $5,000 to win cards at Williams Grove and BAPS around a $6,000-to-win Saturday tilt at Port Royal with Lincoln in regular action as well.
USAC finds its way back to Belleville, KS, for the first time since 2016 with the Midgets kicking off the season Friday and Saturday on the Short Track carved into the middle of the storied High Banks that will host the Silver Crown cars on Saturday. The Midget ranks will round out the weekend with a Sunday stop at Sweet Springs.
Current All Star contender Chris Windom decimated the field in the last Silver Crown appearance atop the Belleville High Banks in 2015 before the Big Cars were removed from the schedule. When questioning USAC brass for no Belleville return the following year, even Big Daddy himself calmly commented that, “Those cars (Silver Crown) have no business being on that track, it’s way too sketchy.” One could hardly argue with the one that hustled the High Banks in a fashion that nobody else dared match, but some views do indeed apparently change over time.
Knoxville tries to get in a second card of 410s and 360s with an IRA double at Plymouth and Angell Park and NARC/King of the West pairing with USAC/CRA at Cali’s Thunderbowl among other weekend 410 action.
While Brody Roa tries for four in a row in a Demon-less USAC/CRA, BOSS takes to Indiana for two nights (Circle City and Montpelier) with MSCS at Paragon along with other weekly action.
The ASCS National series tries to evade Mother Nature in the Western Oklahoma confines of Longdale with USCS down south at Milton along with a host of other 360 events.
