Lonnie Wheatley, BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (March 9, 2023) – While Mother Nature pares down the upcoming weekend schedule with typical March-like inclement weather, there are still several events braving the elements for this upcoming weekend.
The best bet for this one is indoors as Du Quoin’s Southern Illinois Center hosts the season opening event Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series season opener on Friday and Saturday.
It kicks off a slate of 36 events for the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series after Zach Daum took the inaugural championship in 2022 over Bryant Wiedeman and Brenham Crouch.
Thomas Meseraull and Justin Grant scored USAC wins at the Southern Illinois center last March with Daniel Robinson taking POWRi honors in December.
The ASCS Elite Sprint Cars kick off the 2023 campaign at Texas’ Kennedale Speedway on Saturday, a nice tune-up for the upcoming Non-Wing Sprint Car Nationals at Texarkana 67 Speedway on March 24-25.
Alson on the wingless slate, Paragon Speedway is still slated to host the $10,000-to-win No Way Out on Saturday.
In the Winged 360 ranks, the USCS Winter Heat Series continues with a Saturday night card at Mississippi’s Magnolia Motor Speedway while the ASCS Southwest Region opens the season with a twin-bill at Casa Grande’s Central Arizona Speedway on Friday and Saturday and Marysville tries for its opening points night of the season on Saturday.
Brad Bowden topped last year’s lone USCS event at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
Meanwhile in Central Pennsylvania, Williams Grove’s scheduled Sunday opener is still on as scheduled at this time after Port Royal Speedway and the World of Outlaws have pulled the plug on Friday and Saturday plans.
In Oklahoma, Blake Edwards kicks off his OCRS title defense as Red Dirt Raceway gets the season under way on Saturday.
