Rahmer Rallies from 15th to Win Lincoln Matinee

Lonnie Wheatley (March 4, 2023) – Freddie Rahmer rallied from eight rows deep to take the win away from Danny Dietrich in the closing laps of Saturday afternoon’s 30-lap 410-ci Sprint Car feature event at Central Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway.

Rahmer’s second win of the season in three tries at Lincoln Speedway was worth $5,000.

While Rahmer worked his way forward from the 15th starting position, Dietrich battled past pole starter Alan Krimes in the opening pair of corners and set the early pace that was interrupted four times in the initial 13 circuits by three cautions and one red flag when Devon Borden got upside down in turn four.

The most pivotal caution occurred after 11 laps when 14th-starter Anthony Macri and Aaron Bollinger tangled in turn four while dicing for the third position.

“There was a lot of yellows there and stuff happening, and I thought we might have a chance to run second or third,” Rahmer commented in victory lane.

But he had more in mind than that, cracking the top five by the midway point and then making his way past Krimes “Against Humanity” for second on the 23rd round.

“We got to lapped traffic and Krimes cut down at the perfect time,” Rahmer explained.

Rahmer closed on Dietrich and threw a slidejob in turns one and two on the 27th round, only to have Dietrich counter the move.  Rahmer repeated the move the next time around to make it stick and then fended off a pair of Dietrich attempts in turns three and four on the final pair of circuits to secure the win.

“It was hard to get through lapped traffic and it was almost better to be second,” Rahmer commented.  “It was good, hard racing with Danny there, we raced each other really good and that was pretty cool to win.”

Dietrich settled for runner-up honors after leading the initial 27 rounds with Krimes filling out the podium in third as Tim Wagaman and Chad Trout rounded out the top five.

Chris Windom crossed the stripe sixth in his first start aboard the Heffner Racing No. 27 with Brandon Rahmer, 22nd-starter Matt Campbell, Troy Wagaman and Tim Glatfelter completing the top ten.
