Lonnie Wheatley, BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (December 13, 2022) – Justin Sandes emerged atop the 2022 edition of the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Sprint Car Power Rankings.
The Aromas, CA, racer took the top ranking by 111 points over Oklahoma’s Blake Hahn, the fourth-largest gap between first and second since the inception of the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings in 2013. Shane Golobic, Wayne Johnson and Dylan Westbrook filled out this year’s top five with just 20 points separating second through fifth.
Sanders becomes the sixth different driver to top the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings, joining the likes of Sam Hafertepe, Jr., who topped the charts four consecutive years from 2016 to 200, and Jason Johnson, who went back-to-back in 2013 and 2014, along with Seth Bergman (2015), Mark Smith (2020) and J.J. Hickle (2021).
A look at this year’s top ten:
1. Justin Sanders (Aromas, CA – 686 points) – Sanders racked up a dozen wins in 360-ci action at a handful of tracks including five at Placerville and a sweep of four nights of Western Sprint Tour Speedweek action at Cottage Grove. Three wins came in SCCT action as Sanders racked up best of 32 top-fives. It is Sanders’ sixth time among the top ten in final Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings over the past eight years with previous bests of second in both 2015 and 2021.
2. Blake Hahn (Sapulpa, OK – 575 points) – Hahn raced to a second consecutive ASCS National title in ’22 with four of his five wins coming in National action including a sweep of the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals. It is Hahn’s sixth time among the Rod End Supply Power Rankings top ten and fourth time among the top five in the last seven years after a previous best of third last year
3. Shane Golobic (Fremont, CA – 558 points) – Golobic racked up eight Cali wins including three in SCCT action and earned his third Trophy Cup championship at Tulare. It is Golobic’s fourth consecutive time among the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings top ten including a best of second in 2020.
4. Wayne Johnson (Oklahoma City, OK – 557 points) – Johnson returned to 360-ci action from the World of Outlaws ranks and finished up second in ASCS National Tour points where he posted five of his seven wins including the Hockett/McMillin Memorial triumph at Lucas Oil Speedway. He made his way back into the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings top ten after six consecutive top-tens from 2014 to 2019, matching his previous best of fourth in 2017.
5. Dylan Westbrook (Scotland, ONT – 555 points) – Westbrook reeled off seven wins at seven different tracks throughout Ohio, Michican, Missouri, Kansas and Ontario, Canada among a mix of sanctioning bodies including ASCS National, NRA, GLSS and Southern Ontario Sprints as well as a weekly win at Ohsweken. It is Westbrook’s fifth time among the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings in the last six years and first time among the top five.
6. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX – 480 points) – Hafertepe, Jr., made the most of a limited slate of 360-ci events with seven feature wins including a “King of 360’s” crown at East Bay Raceway Park and a Short Track Nationals score in the final event contested at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway in October. Hafertepe, Jr., finished among the top three in Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings six times from 2014 to 2020 including four consecutive top rankings.
7. Davie Franek (Wantage, NJ – 465 points) – Franek raced to the Patriot Sprint Tour title in ’22 while also finishing second in Empire Super Sprint points. It is Franek’s second time among the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings top ten after a showing of fourth in 2019.
8. Chase Randall (Waco, TX – 452 points) – “The Quickest Chicken” bounced around the country picking off seven overall wins including triumphs with the Sprint Invaders and MSTS. Six of those wins came in SIA action.
9. Aaron Reutzel (Clute, TX – 451 points) – Reutzel divvied up time between 410’s and 360’s with seven of nine overall 360-ci wins coming at Knoxville (4) and I-30 Speedway (3), including a Knoxville 360 Nationals triumph. Three three-time All Star champ returned to the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings for the first time since 2017 when he finished among the top three for the fourth consecutive time including runner-up rankings in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
10. Derek Hagar (Marion, AR – 447 points) – Hagar topped the 360-ci win charts in ’22 at 13, racing to both the I-30 Speedway track title and the ASCS Mid-South Region championship. It is Hagar’s fifth time among the Rod End Supply Winged 360 Power Rankings top ten including top-five rankings of fourth in 2016 and fifth in 2017.
