Lonnie Wheatley, BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (November 29, 2022) – Brent Marks put together a stellar 2022 season to top the 2022 edition of the STIDA Winged 410 Sprint Car Power Rankings.
Marks racked up 18 wins on the season to take the number one ranking by 54 markers over Carson Macedo with Anthony Macri, Brad Sweet and David Gravel filling out the top five.
Marks became the fourth driver to earn the number one spot over the past ten years after Donny Schatz finished in the top position for six consecutive years from 2013 to 2018 with Brad Sweet on top in 2019 and 2021 and Kyle Larson earning the top ranking in 2020.
A look at this year’s top ten:
1. Brent Marks (Myerstown, PA – 1,256 points) – Running a true Outlaw schedule in ’22 netted Marks 18 feature wins, headlined by a $175,000 score in Eldora’s Kings Royal that ran his four-night earnings at the Big E to $276,125 after topping the Historical Big One earlier in the week. Three other wins came in World of Outlaws competition along with a handful of All Star scores and five wins during Central PA Speedweek that Marks dominated. Marks’ wins came at 11 different tracks as he racked up 51 top-fives and 64 top-tens. It’s Marks third consecutive year among the final STIDA top ten after a previous best of eighth in 2021.
2. Carson Macedo (Lemoore, CA – 1,202 points) – Macedo topped the World of Outlaws win charts with a dozen scores including a $25,000 payday at the Jackson Nationals, finishing third in series points. Macedo added wins at Keller and Knoxville to run his overall total to 14 wins as he finished among the top ten in STIDA Power Rankings for the fourth time in the past five years after finishing third in 2021.
3. Anthony Macri (Dillsburg, PA – 1,171 points) – “The Concrete Kid” led the way in 410-ci action with 23 feature wins, doing his most damage at Port Royal where he racked up ten wins including a sweep of the World of Outlaws Nittany Showdown in October. Along with the pair of WoO wins, another eight came in All Star action that netted $155,000 alone including a $60,000 payday at Port Royal’s Tuscarora 50, $29,000 in the Weikert Memorial and $26,000 in the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race at Missouri’s I-70 Speedway. After topping Hosehead’s Central PA Sprint Car Series points, Macri finished among the top ten in STIDA Power Rankings for third consecutive year after a best of ninth in 2021.
4. Brad Sweet (Grass Valley, CA – 1,159 points) – “The Big Cat” raced to his fourth consecutive World of Outlaws championship in 2022 despite posting his lowest win total (5) since 2017. Among his wins were $20,000 scores at Williams Grove’s Summer Nationals and I-55’s Ironman. It is Sweet’s sixth consecutive year among the STIDA Power Rankings top five but the first time out of the top two since finishing sixth in 2016.
5. David Gravel (Watertown, CT – 1,131 points) – Gravel earned the runner-up ranking in World of Outlaws points with seven wins along the way. It’s the seventh consecutive year that Gravel has finished among the top five in STIDA Power Rankings with rankings of third in 2017, 2018 and 2019 his best.
6. Justin Peck (Monrovia, IN – 1,126 points) – Peck breaks into the top ten in STIDA Power Rankings for the first time after a previous best of 11th last year. Peck ranked second in All Star points with eight series wins along with a Williams Grove triumph to run the win total for the season to nine. There may not have been a busier driver in the 410 nation as Peck racked up 71 top-tens.
7. Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, IN – 1,037 points) – Courtney raced to a second consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title on the strength of eight series wins after breaking from the non-wing ranks. Along with his All Star triumphs, Courtney added a pair of Skagit wins including NARC’s $50,000-to-win Dirt Cup in June. It was Courtney’s second year among the STIDA Power Rankings top ten after claiming tenth in 2021.
8. Danny Dietrich (Gettysburg, PA – 1,020 points) – Second in Hosehead’s Central PA Sprint Car points and the 2022 Williams Grove champion, Dietrich racked up 14 wins to rank among the top ten in STIDA Power Rankings for the ninth year in a row with a best of fourth in 2015. While a half-dozen of Dietrich’s triumph came at Central PA’s Lincoln Speedway, Dietrich also scored four All Star wins including a pair of Ohio Speedweek wins at Attica and Limaland.
9. Donny Schatz (Fargo, ND – 1,010 points) – After topping the STIDA Power Rankings from 2013 to 2018, Schatz finished outside the top five for just the second time after a ranking of seventh in 2020. With five wins on the season for the third consecutive year after racking up 167 triumphs in the previous seven years, Schatz got the big one in ’22 with his 11th Knoxville Nationals title worth $175,000 before finishing off the season by sweeping the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte to finish fourth in WoO points. Schatz is among nine drivers to top the 1,000 point plateau in STIDA Power Rankings, the most since six topped the mark in 2016.
10. Sheldon Haudenschild (Wooster, OH – 940 points) – Haudenschild finished out the 2022 campaign fifth in World of Outlaws points on the strength of nine feature wins including a $100,000 triumph at Huset’s High Bank Nationals in June. It’s Haudenschild’s fourth consecutive year among the top ten in STIDA Power Rankings.
