Brent Marks Cashes in at Eldora’s Historical Big One!

Lonnie Wheatley (July 14, 2022) – Brent Marks continues to build upon a monstrous 2022 season.

Marks rallied past Tyler Courtney 25 laps through Thursday night’s 40-lap Eldora Speedway “Historical Big One” feature to take the $100,000 winner’s share with his 12th win of the season aboard the M&M Painting & Construction/Murray Family Investments No. 19.

“I didn’t think we had a winning car there the first half of the race and it just really came on there once the track started to slick off a little bit and that late restart really helped,” Marks commented in victory lane.  “We had an awful night last night, to come out tonight and win, holy crap this is awesome.”

It was no easy chore by any means, as Marks raced from the 14th starting position to claim the lucrative payday and his fourth World of Outlaws score of the year after previous triumphs at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Texas, Williams Grove Speedway in Central Pennsylvania and Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway.

While current All Star Circuit of Champions points leader Courtney led from the drop of the green flag from the front row, Marks worked his way into the top five on a lap 15 restart and was third in short order as Courtney and Rico Abreu sliced and diced for the lead.

After swapping the point several times, Courtney re-established command over Abreu before Marks rallied past both of them to take the reins for keeps on the 25th round.

Despite a late-race rub with the turn four wall, Marks kept his pursuers at bay to take the win ahead of Courtney and Abreu as current World of Outlaws Sprint Car points leader Brad Sweet and 21st-starter Logan Schuchart rounded out the top five.

“It sucks being that good and I didn’t get that good of that a restart, I don’t know what second pays but I knows it’s not a hundred grand,” Courtney commented after his runner-up finish.

Brian Brown raced from 19th to sixth with David Gravel, 17th-starter Carson Macedo, Kyle Larson and Donny Schatz completing the top ten.  Larson rebounded from a cut right rear tire after eight laps to salvage the top-ten finish.

Giovanni Scelzi established the night’s quick time of 12.967 seconds in qualifying over a field of 59 cars before spinning the “Wheel of Misfortune” that resulted in an invert of five cars for heat races that were topped by Sweet, Gravel, Kerry Madsen, Larson, Courtney and Sye Lynch.

Anthony Macri won the “C” Main with James McFadden topping the “B” Main.  McFadden raced through the field all the way to sixth in the feature before tire problems cut his run short.
