Macedo Elbows Up for World of Outlaws Honors at I-55 Raceway!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEVELY, Mo. (April 16, 2022) – Saturday proved to be a rough-and-tumble kind of night at Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway.

So it was only fitting that Nor-Cal bullring grad Carson Macedo got his elbows up to capture his third World of Outlaws Sprint Car series feature win of the year by leading all 35 lap aboard the Jason Johnson Racing Albaugh No. 41 Sprint Car atop the 1/3-mile clay oval.

“I feel like there was definitely some luck involved tonight,” Macedo explained after taking the win from the third starting position.  “Guys were just bouncing all over the place and you didn’t know which direction they would go.  I kept trying to enter as high as I could to turn across the ruts instead of trying to run against them.”

After charging past front row starters Logan Schuchart and Sheldon Haudenschild on the opening circuit, there was no stopping the Lemoore, CA, native as he captured his first I-55 Raceway win to go along with previous series scores at Texas’ Cotton Bowl Speedway and California’s Merced Speedway.

Pennsylvania’s Schuchart chased throughout but was unable to mount a serious charge as he settled for a season-best runner-up finish in the Shark Racing No. 1s.

“I thought we might have a shot him,” Schuchart said.  “I can tell you we didn’t lose that one from a lack of effort, I was trying my absolute hardest to get that one.  He just never gave me the right moment to capitalize on him.”

Reigning champ and current series points leader Brad Sweet filled out the podium in third, commenting that, “It was a tricky track with some rough spots tonight, I’m just happy to bring it home in third after so many close calls.”

After an incident on a restart in the opening handful of circuits, Sheldon Haudenschild blitzed back through to field to a salvage a fourth-place finish with 11th-starter James McFadden rounding out the top five.  Rico Abreu claimed sixth with 17th-starter David Gravel, Spencer Bayston, Donny Schatz and Jacob Allen completing the top ten.

After Abreu set the overall quick time of 10.372 seconds in qualifying, Haudenschild, Schuchart, Allen and Macedo topped heat race action before Kerry Madsen won the “B” Main.
