Jacob Allen Wins World of Outlaws “Jason Johnson Classic” at Lake Ozark Speedway!

Lonnie Wheatley, ELDON, Mo. (April 9, 2022) – Shark Racing has historically performed well at Lake Ozark Speedway.

Saturday night proved to be more of the same with Jacob Allen putting the Shark Racing No. 1a into World of Outlaws victory lane for just the second time to take the $15,000 winner’s share in the 30-lap “Jason Johnson Classic” atop the 1/3-mile dirt oval.

“Jason Johnson’s program is a family-based program, our team is a family-based program,” Allen said of winning the Jason Johnson Classic.  “I have nothing but respect for their whole family and their team and to continue on out here shows a lot of great characteristics.”

In a race in which tire proved to be a factor, Allen and Brady Bacon swapped the point three times along the way before Allen finally muscled underneath Bacon exiting turn two on the 28th round to pace the final circuits.

“I feel like I’ve been known to be mister nice guy,” Allen said.  “I made a bad decision by going to the top in lapped traffic and he (Bacon) snuck by me.  I couldn’t lose like that, I just kinda had to move him outta the way a bit and do what I had to do win this one.”

After winning the Pole Dash to lead the feature event to the green flag, Allen paced the opening 11 circuits before Bacon slipped by momentarily to lead the 12th lap and then once again took command on the 20th circuit.

With cars locked to the bottom of the track over the final half of the race, Allen moved his way past Bacon exiting turn two with less than four laps remaining en route to take the checkered flag ahead of Spencer Bayston with David Gravel filling out the podium in third.

Debuting the TKH No. 21h Winged 410-ci Sprint Car, Bacon was ever so close to winning his first World of Outlaws feature after spinning out of the lead in the companion Xtreme Non-Wing Sprint Car feature.

But a fading right rear tire proved to be too much for Bacon as he surrendered the lead and then finally popped that tire with the white flag in sight before limping the final one-third mile to be credited with 17th.

Behind the lead trio of Allen, Bayston and Gravel, Allen’s Shark Racing teammate Logan Schuchart was fourth with current WoO points leader Brad Sweet in fifth.  Brock Zearfoss claimed sixth with Rico Abreu, Brent Marks, Giovanni Scelzi and Sheldon Haudenschild completing the top ten.

Allen established the night’s quickest overall time of 11.464-seconds in qualifying and then won his heat race with Gravel, Sweet and Zearfoss also posting heat race wins.  Sam Hafertepe, Jr., won the 12-lap “B” Main.
